Once you check in.
A Table d'hôte menu, most meals are prepared with vegetables picked fresh from our kitchen garden. Food is homely, and dare we say, the best in Bir.
Aesthetic rooms, with bay windows overlooking the Kangra valley.

Service is efficient and standards are high, ensured by us as we live on the property.

The Colonel's Resort is located in the charming hamlet of Bir, in the bosom of the Dhauladhars, in the Kangra valley of Himachal Pradesh. The hamlet is at an elevation of 5,000 ft (1500 meters) and hemmed by the majestic Dhauladhars, and abruptly rise to 11,800 ft (3600 meters) forming a picturesque yet formidable wall to the north. The resort was built by my wife and I, on our ancestral property after I took retirement from the army. Our ancestors have been a part of the Kangra history for 700 years.

The resort is built on a tea estate which is among the oldest in the country. Tea was first planted in the Kangra valley in 1850 by the British, even before the plantations in Assam.

Thank you very much team Colonel's Resort for the hospitality. Our experience of stay at the resort was average. We were a little let down though with few things that we hope would be improvised further. We did an advance booking for our stay at Colonel's Resort about 4 to 5 days before we arrived. Unfortunately the owners and the staff to our surprise were unaware of the guests they were to receive. We had to literally explain the procedure that we followed to confirm our booking on our arrival whereas this information to our expectation should have been conveyed to the owner by the person handling bookings online. Secondly, when you charge a competitive amount for the hospitality that you are committed to provide, please make sure your resort is well equipped with the basic facilities like electricity back up, hot water, tasteless food etc. Because your resort was out of electricity for the whole night, we couldn't charge the batteries of our phones. Thankfully we were carrying our power bank. Despite having gen-set, I have no clue why it wasn't used. We had planned our stay for 2 nights at the resort but being totally dissatisfied with our experience at the Colonel's Resort we checked out a day prior. A customer will happily pay the amount you charge if you work on providing the amenities you promised on your website. There are few things that property owner needs to understand. What is the difference between a normal rental cottage and a resort ? A resort is well equipped with all modern amenities at least electricity back up being foremost so that your guest doesn't have to sleep in absolute darkness. Had I been the owner of this "Resort " I wouldn't wait for the customers feedback on something that I realise I failed to deliver. As a courtesy sake at least a bouquet, a note, a little discount on the bill or anything to win the appreciation of the customer would have been done from our side when we know our customer spent a night at our resort without electricity. On the contrary we landed up paying a days tariff extra (for the day we had to stay) including the *service charge* . Lastly only a good thing I'd like to state about your resort is your helper Vishnu. We were more comfortable informing him about the amenities we weren't getting rather than the hosts. Thank you.
